Yesterday for day 12, I covered one of my all time favorite college players that played QB at Notre Dame. Now today for day 11, I’ll be highlighting the Jets newest pass rusher that dominated while at Florida State.
Jermaine Johnson was an unranked pass rusher recruit out of Eden Prairie High School in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Due to his grades in high school, he was unable to play division one football so he committed to Independence Community College in Independence, Kansas. As a freshman on Last Chance U, he made 58 tackles and 8 sacks. The following year he transferred to Georgia.
In his first season with the Bulldogs, Johnson made 20 tackles with 2.5 sacks and 1 forced fumble. The next season in Athens, he made 14 tackles and 4 sacks. He would go onto transfer to Florida State for his final season of eligibility.
With the Seminoles, he really broke out making 70 tackles, 12 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles. He was named First Team All ACC, ACC Defensive Player of the Year, and WCFF All American. Johnson was selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
