Yesterday for day 19, we highlighted a big time pass rusher that played college football in the state of Michigan. Now today for day 18, we stay in the state of Michigan and look at one of the best quarterbacks of the past ten years.
Connor Cook was born in Parma Heights, Ohio and played high school football at Walsh Jesuit High in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. He was ranked thirteenth in the nation at the quarterback position.
Cook decided to play at Michigan State from 2011 to 2015. Cook redshirted in 2011 and in 2012, he went nine for seventeen with ninety four passing yards and one touchdown. He was on the roster that won the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.
The following season, Cook took over as the starter in East Lansing and threw for just south of two thousand and eight hundred yards and twenty two touchdowns. He was named Second Team BIG Ten and was the BIG Ten Championship Game MVP.
In 2014, Cook threw for over three thousand yards and twenty four touchdowns while also rushing for two touchdowns. He was named Rose Bowl MVP and earned his second, Second Team BIG Ten honors.
Cooks final season in 2015 had similar stats to his junior season. He threw for just over three thousand yards and twenty four touchdowns. He won the Unitas Golden Arm Award, Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year, First Team BIG Ten, was the BIG Ten Championship Game MVP for a second time, and won the Cotton Bowl.
Cook was drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Raiders. He bounced around the NFL and last played for the Houston Roughnecks in 2020.
