2021-2022 Bowl Game Predictions Part Two
Back at it.
12/21, Famous Idaho Potato Bowl: Kent State vs Wyoming
Much like the Old Dominion vs Tulsa game, a lot of the games on this post consist of teams I’m not too familiar with, so I’ll try to give my best bowl game predictions starting with my pick of Kent State over Wyoming.
There are two reasons I’m picking Kent State. The first being I like Kent States mascot better, the Golden Flashes. Cowboys are cool, but are lame when compared to a Golden Flash.
Reason two is Kent State has played better competition than Wyoming. They’ve gone toe to toe with Iowa and Texas A&M while also beating Northern Illinois earlier in the year before losing to them in the MAC Championship game. Give me Kent State.
12/21, Frisco Bowl: #24 San Diego State vs UTSA
I loved UTSA much like many college football fans this season as they went undefeated before running into North Texas, but I think the Roadrunners will be handed their second loss of the season against San Diego State.
The Aztecs have taken down Air Force, tenth ranked Utah, and Boise State this year in impressive fashion behind Brady Hoke and UTSA is just another team on the schedule for this high powered Aztecs squad.
12/22, Armed Forces Bowl: Missouri vs Army
Army is coming off of a loss to Navy in Americas game, but that doesn’t mean they’re down and out on the year. I like the Black Knights from West Point over Missouri.
I am basing this pick mainly off the fact that I like Army a lot more than Missouri, just in general. And that the two games I watched Missouri play against Kentucky and Boston College they lost. I think that Army runs the ball down the Tigers throat and win by two scores.
12/23, Frisco Football Classic: Miami (Ohio) vs North Texas
Not much to say here. North Texas beat UTSA this year which spoiled their undefeated season so I’m taking the Mean Green. That is it.
I don’t really know anything about these two squads other than the fact that North Texas is averaging 440 yards a game on offense. I don’t think anything changes for the Mean Green offense and they thump the Red Hawks.
12/23, Gasparilla Bowl: Florida vs UCF
Fun fact, this is the first time that the Gasparilla bowl has sold out and these fans get to watch the Gators beat the Knights.
I have an irrational hate for UCF that stems from their “NaTiOnAl ChAmPiOnShIp” season so any time they play anyone I’m going to pick against them. Along with that, the SEC is a different dog than the AAC so give me the Gators.
12/24 Hawaii Bowl: Hawaii vs Memphis
In my last Bowl game prediction blog, I wrote how Louisiana had a home field advantage in the New Orleans Bowl against Marshall. Well here, I don’t think that matters for Hawaii.
Memphis is averaging 434.9 yards per game on offense while Hawaii is giving up 446 yards a game on defense. This just creates the perfect storm for Memphis to have an offensive explosion and win the Hawaii Bowl.
12/25, Camellia Bowl: Ball State vs Georgia State
Look, I shoot from the hip and I’m hip when I shoot so I’m not going to lie to you. I flipped a coin for this game because these are two teams I could not have cared about less this season so I didn’t watch either. Heads said Georgia State so give me Georgia State.
12/27, Quick Lane Bowl: Western Michigan vs Nevada
Fun fact, I won free tickets to the Quick Lane Bowl this year, but with it being in Detroit and myself being in Arizona for the holidays I had to decline so I won’t be able to see Nevada beat Western Michigan in person.
While Carson Strong isn’t going to play in the game, he isn’t the sole reason Nevada is averaging 439.9 yards a game on offense. I think that the Wolfpack will rely on the run game and utilize Toa Taua against a solid Broncos defense.
12/27, Military Bowl: Boston College vs East Carolina
East Carolina has the eighty first ranked defense in the country and have to play against a dynamic quarterback in Phil Jurkovec who I think is going to torch the Pirates.
Jurkovec has been very effective on the ground making ACC defenses panic as he’s rushed for 322 yards and 5 touchdowns on 50 attempts, his longest being a 41 yard dash. I think Jurkovecs legs become the X-Factor in this game and push the Eagles to a win.
12/28, Birmingham Bowl: #20 Houston vs Auburn
When I saw the initial bowl matchups come out, I thought that Auburn would slaughter Houston but my mind has changed.
I mentioned before in this article that the SEC is a different animal than the AAC, but Houstons been really good this season on both sides of the ball and other than a close Iron Bowl game, Auburn has been about as mid as it gets.
