Yesterday we looked at a pretty dominant NFL tight end that played at Iowa. Now today for day 37, we’ll be looking at a a great college running back from the 90’s.
Shaun Alexander was born and raised in Florence, Kentucky and attended Boone County High School. In his senior season, Alexander rushed for over three thousand yards and scored fifty four touchdowns. He was named Sports Illustrated Old Spice Athlete of the Month and was nicknamed “Alexander the Great”.
Alexander narrowed down his recruitment to Michigan, Alabama, and Notre Dame. The Irish seemed like the front runner to land the Blue Grass native because his brother was in the marching band. He decided to play for the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa instead.
At Alabama, Alexander appeared in twenty games from 1996 to 1997. In those two years, Alexander the Great racked up just over a thousand scrimmage yards and nine touchdowns.
1998, his junior season was when he really broke out and saw an increased role on offense. He rushed for one thousand forty six yards and scored sixteen total touchdowns. In this season he was named Second Team All SEC.
The following season in 1999, Alexander came back to Tuscaloosa instead of going to the draft. He tallied over thirty hundred rushing yards, three hundred and twenty receiving yards and twenty three total touchdowns. His efforts landed him First Team All SEC and First Team All American.
Following is sensational senior season, Alexander was drafted nineteenth overall by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2000 NFL Draft. He’d go onto play from 2000 to 2008 with the Seahawks and Redskins.
Tomorrow as we journey closer to the start of the season, we highlight a hard nosed linebacker who played for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
