5 Days Until the College Football Season Kicks Off
Let's go back to the defensive side of the ball.
Yesterday for day 6 we looked at a Heisman Trophy winning quarterback for the Oklahoma Sooners. Now today for day 5, we’ll be taking a look at a defensive tackle from the SEC that was a UNIT.
Derrick Brown was born in Sugar Hill, Georgia and attended Lanier High School in Buford, Georgia. At Lanier, he recorded two hundred and seventy tackles and thirty three and a half sacks.
His unreal college stat lines made him a five star recruit and it looked like Alabama and Georgia were the favorites to land the run stuffer until he committed to Auburn University in Alabama.
As a true freshman in 2016, Brown played in eight games and recorded eleven tackles with one sack and a forced fumble. In 2017, Brown became a starter for the Tigers. He tallied fifty seven total tackles, three sacks, recovered two fumbles, and deflected a pass.
In 2018, Brown started in thirteen games where he racked up forty eight tackles, four and a half sacks, and recovered one fumble. His efforts earned him Second Team All SEC honors.
Browns senior season was his best at Auburn as he was named First Team All SEC and was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year. He recorded fifty four tackles, four sacks, and forced two fumbles.
He entered into the 2020 NFL Draft and was selected seventh overall by the Carolina Panthers adding to a solid defensive line with Brian Burns.
Tomorrow for day 4, we’ll be taking a look at a down hill and shifty back that played college ball in Tallahassee.
