Today we sadly close out the fifties but we do so with an absolute BANG. We get to highlight one of the greatest college offensive linemen of all time.
Dave Rimington grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and decided to stay in state and play for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Rimington has arguably the most impressive college career of any lineman to ever play the game of football.
He was twice named the Outland Trophy winner, which is awarded to the nation's top interior offensive or defensive lineman, in both 1981 and 1982. What’s more impressive about this achievement is that Rimington is the only two time award winner.
More of Rimington’s achievements include being named First Team All American in 1981 and 1982, UPI Big Eight Player of the Year and Big Eight Offensive Player of the Year in 1981. The following season he was named the Big Eight Athlete of the Year for all sports, was the UPI Lineman of the Year, and won the Lombardi Award.
His number 50 is retired by the Cornhuskers and because of his dominant play at the center position, he has the Rimington Trophy named after him for the nations top center. Unreal legacy.
Tomorrow as we break into the forties, we look at one of the most dominant linebackers to ever play college football, one that rocked a club in the deep south.
