#50. Perks Of Being A Wallflower (2012)
Alright, we are HALF WAY THERE. Some of you are probably upset that this list is close to ending, but I’m assuming that the majority of readers is happy they won’t be getting five blogs a day about different movies. At number 50, we have the 2012 coming-of-age drama, Perks Of Being A Wallflower. Perks Of Being A Wallflower was directed by Stephen Chbosky and starts Logan Lerman, Ezra Miller, and Emma Watson with supporting performances from Mae Whitman, Paul Rudd, and Johnny Simmons.
Perks Of Being A Wallflower does a great job exploring touchy subjects that high school and college kids go through like loss of loved ones, mental health, and sexuality. Lermans character experiences severe anxiety and PTSD from an event that is revealed in the back half of the film. The building anxiety and guilt of his best friend killing himself pushes him to nearly kill himself at the end of the film in a wildly intense scene that makes the film a mental health masterpiece.
Ezra Miller and Emma Watson are an outstanding brother-sister combo. The scene where Miller is provoked by Johnny Simmons character, who he’s having a sexual relationship with is really intense and anxiety filled. Simmons calls Miller a “faggot” and Miller threatens to expose him in front of everyone in the cafeteria. Simmons and his friends then start to beat the shit out of Miller and Lerman steps in my punching Simmons to end the debacle. It’s a powerful scene about stepping outside your shell and defending your friends. This movie is great.
