Yesterday we looked at a friend of mine in Mack Brown who gets after the quarterback. Now for day 59, we look at service academy alum that was a dominant run blocker for a triple option offense.
Mike Johnson played from 2016 to 2020 with the Army Black Knights in West Point, New York. He was a two-year letter winner at Hinsdale High School and was named All Area. He then went to USMAPS in Orange County, New York before going to West Point.
Johnson went viral last season when he came off the field during a break while the number twenty two Black Knights were playing number fourteen Cincinnati Bearcats and head butted the Army fullbacks coach.
Army and the other service academies are filled with juice hounds and football guys but holy shit, this move sends Johnson to the front of the line. To be that fired up to head butt your own coach is just electric.
Through his Black Knight career, Johnson played in a total of thirty nine games, twenty four of which were in the 2018 and 2020 season. In 2017, Johnson missed the season due to an injury.
Johnson was one of only five Cadets to start in every game for the Black Knights this past season and was named a captain. In my opinion, being named a captain at a school like Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, or any military affiliated academy is extremely impressive.
Tomorrow for day 58, we get to look at one of colleges best linebackers of the 2000’s era and I’m fired up for it.
