Normally for this countdown, division three guys won’t make the list but today is a rare exception. For 63 days away, we’ll take a look at one of my good friends and fellow center at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
Joe Cerrato is my boy! We’re the same class and play the same position, center. All around good dude and good player. Cerrato is currently a sophomore that doesn’t just play football, he’s also on the track and field team as a shot put thrower.
The Port Monmouth, New Jersey native and Mater Dei Prep school alum stands at five foot nine and two hundred and sixty pounds with meaty calves.
In past conversations with Joe, he as claimed that the reason he got into Mater Dei Prep, which is a private Catholic school, is that the football coach saw his calves and wanted him to play for the Seraphs, what ever that is. I do not know how true this is but, because I love Joe, I’ll take his word for this.
In our freshman season, Cerrato played in six games at center. He rotated series with senior center Victor Ramirez who was our primary starter. The marine transportation major plays with a lot of power but has zero drip. Wears no sleeves, no gloves, and somehow still gets service.
A little bit about Joe is that he claims to know how fish but that’s a clear lie and he has a crippling addiction to Wawa hoagies. Joe also does not know how to swim and has an irrational fear of sharks.
For tomorrow, we look at one of my all time favorite centers of all time. He played at a slightly higher level than Joe has, Florida State.
