Well, the last few days have been guys from recent years and tomorrow is a fairly recent guy but for today, day 66, we take a look at an undersized mauler that played college ball over fifteen years ago in Virginia.
D'Brickashaw Ferguson was wildly undersized heading into Charlottesville, Virginia to play for the Cavaliers. He came into camp weighing just two hundred and sixty pounds and even dropped down to two hundred and forty five pounds.
In 2003, Ferguson played some linebacker and special teams while also starting four consecutive Bowl games at left tackle for the Cavaliers. Through his career, he started forty nine consecutive games and was named first team All ACC twice becoming Virginias first All ACC tackle since 1998.
Ferguson was also named All American in 2005. In addition to his great play on the field, he earned a religious studies degree in three and a half years.
Heading into the draft, Ferguson was able to pack on the pounds getting to three hundred and fifteen pounds for the combine. What earned him notoriety was his massive wingspan and the fact that he was a black belt in karate and brown belt in taekwondo. The Jets selected him fourth overall in 2006.
Tomorrow we revert back to recent maulers in the trenches and for day 65, we get to highlight a guy who played for the Vikings.
