67. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2011)
It's hard to believe that the fear of offending can be stronger than the fear of pain, but you know what? It is.
#67. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2011)
Coming in at number 67 on the list of my 100 Favorite Films of All Time is the 2011 neo-noir psychological thriller, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was directed by David Fincher and stars Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara with supporting performances from Christopher Plummer, Stellan Skarsgård, Robin Wright, and Steven Berkoff. This is the second of six David Fincher films that are in my top 100.
What sets The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo a part from other Fincher films and makes me enjoy it so much is how there are two storylines that don’t come together until about forty five minutes to an hour in. I have to say, the first thirty minutes of the Rooney Mara story line are disturbing. She gets raped, then rapes the person who raped her and tattoos "I'm a rapist pig" on his chest. That whole sequence feels like it goes on for an hour, but it’s only about five minutes.
I found Daniel Craigs performance to be great along with Mara stealing the show. It’s crazy to think that a year earlier, she played a very small yet integral role in The Social Network. In addition to their two performances, I thought that Stellan Skarsgård was a great villain. The scene where he has Craig in the torture mechanism is so unreal and he looks so maniacal.
