Yesterday for day 71, I covered an offensive guard for the Broncos that played at Kansas State. Today for day 70, I’ll be highlighting a tackle that played for Coach Saban.
Alex Leatherwood was a 5 star recruit out of Booker T. Washington High School in Pensacola, Florida. He held offers from Michigan, Florida, and Louisville, but decided to play for the legendary Coach Saban in Tuscaloosa.
Leatherwood played from 2017-2020 in Alabama and as a freshman saw significant play time and was part of the 2017 National Championship team. While he originally started his career at left tackle, in 2018 he moved to right tackle and was named Second Team All SEC.
In 2019, Leatherwood played very well and was named All SEC First Team. 2020 was Leatherwoods breakout season. He was named All SEC First Team, Unanimous All American, won the Outland Trophy, Jacobs Blocking Trophy, and a National Title.
He would go onto be drafted in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Raiders and has since moved to guard.
