Yesterday for day 83, I highlighted a pass catcher that rocked a golden helmet for my Irish. Today for day 82, I’ll be covering a tight end that played college ball for Coach Saban in Tuscaloosa.
Irv Smith Jr. was a 4 star recruit coming out of Brother Martin High School (shoutout Mack Brown) in New Orleans, Louisiana. He amassed offers from Texas, Florida, and Arizona State, but opted to play for one of the greatest college coaches of all time, Nick Saban.
As a true freshman, Smith didn’t record a reception, but as a sophomore in 2017 he reeled in 14 catches for 128 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Crimson Tide would wind up winning the National Title that same season.
The following season in 2018, Smiths last under Coach Sabans reign, he was named Second Team All SEC after he made 44 catches for 710 yards and 7 touchdowns. The Brother Martin alum would end up declaring for the 2019 NFL Draft and would be selected in the second round by my Minnesota Vikings.
Tomorrow for day 81, I’ll go over another tight end who played at one of Smiths rival universities.
