Yesterday for day 87 I highlighted a tight end that I love watching on Saturdays at Notre Dame in Michael Mayer. Now today for day 86 we’ll be examining another tight end; this time one that plays at Michigan and hails from Connecticut.
Luke Schoonmaker is a Connecticut native that played his high school ball at Hamden Hall Country Day School in Hamden, CT. He was the number 3 ranked player in Connecticut in the class of 2018 as he was rated a 3 star recruit. He accumulated offers from UConn, Indiana, and East Carolina, but later committed to play Michigan.
Schoonmaker saw very little time as a freshman in 2018, but recorded his first career catch in 2019 as a sophomore. He finished his sophomore season with 2 catches for 54 yards and 1 touchdown. As a junior in 2020, Schoonmaker appeared in 6 games, but didn’t record any stats.
This past season, the Hamden native saw time in all 14 games and made his first career start against Washington on September 11th. He ended the season with 17 grabs going for 165 yards and 3 touchdowns. Those numbers earned him All BIG Ten Honorable Mention. Tomorrow for day 85 I’ll be covering a tight end that was drafted very high out of an ACC school a few years back.
