Let us remember, it’s a marathon not a sprint. We’re only at day 87 but on the bright side, we’re 87 days away from the college football season and physical pass catcher is the theme.
As a Notre Dame fan, my bias tends to leak into my writing and podcasting a bit but I could care less about that because I love the Irish so today we’re going to be looking at a current Notre Dame tight end that lays the boom on blocks and finishes over defenders when he runs a route.
Michael Mayer had a tremendously impressive season for a freshman in the ACC. He was second fiddle behind Tommy Tremble who just got drafted by the Panthers but he definitely picked up some of Trembles physical tendencies.
Mayer posted 42 catches for 450 yards and 2 touchdowns in his freshman campaign with his best game coming against the Pittsburgh Panthers when he caught 5 passes going for 73 yards and a touchdown.
As an Irish fan I’m so fired up to see the possible tandem of Mayer catching passes from CT native Drew Pyne in the future.
Tomorrow we’ll get to highlight two more tight ends, another from South Bend and one that played his college ball on the west coast.
