Yesterday for day 93 I highlighted a defensive tackle that played his college ball at UConn and just signed a fat contract with Jacksonville this offseason. Today for day 94 I’ll be highlighting a defensive tackle that played under Coach Saban at Alabama.
Quinnen Williams was a 4 star recruit out of Wenonah High School in Birmingham, Alabama. He held offers from a plethora of SEC schools including Auburn, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State. Williams originally committed to Auburn but would end up flipping his commitment to play 50 miles west at Alabama for Coach Saban.
Williams redshirted his freshman year and when he finally saw time, the 6’3, 300 pound defensive lineman never looked back. In 2017, he made 20 tackles, 6.5 for loss, and 2 sacks en route to a National Title.
2018 was the real breakout season for Williams as he made 71 tackles, 19.5 for loss, 8 sacks, and 1 pass breakup. That performance led him to be named First Team All SEC, Unanimous All American, and won the Outland Trophy. Williams declared for the 2019 NFL Draft and was selected by the New York Jets third overall.
Tomorrow for day 91, I’ll be covering a Notre Dame pass rusher that played with Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa this past season.
