Yesterday for day 95, I covered a defensive linemen that held down the middle in South Bend for five years, Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa. Now today for day 94, I’ll be going over a defensive lineman that spent his collegiate years at USC and is now a New York Giant.
Leonard Williams was a 4 star recruit coming out of Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, Florida. He was the number five overall defensive tackle in his class and held offers from Florida, Miami, and Alabama, but decided to take his talents to Los Angeles to play for the USC Trojans.
As a true freshman, Williams made 64 tackles, 13.5 for loss, 8 sacks, and 1 interception. His ridiculous freshman season earned him Pac 12 Freshman Defensive Player of the Year honors.
The following two seasons, 2013 and 2014, saw Williams tally 154 total tackles, 22 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, 1 interception, and 3 pass breakups. In those two seasons, Williams was named 2 time All Pac 12 First Team and 2 time All American. He would go onto declare for the 2015 NFL Draft where he was drafted sixth overall by the New York Jets.
Williams is currently on the New York Giants and made one Pro Bowl in 2016 for the Jets. Tomorrow for day 93, I’ll highlight a defensive tackle that played right in my backyard.
