Yesterday for day 97, I covered the number two pick in the 2022 NFL Draft; Aidan Hutchinson who was an All American and Heisman finalist. Today for day 96, I’ll be going over the collegiate career of an all time great NFL nose guard.
Cortez Kennedy rocked number 96 in his 11 seasons with the Seahawks; but prior to that he wore 96 at the University of Miami. Kennedy, an Osceola, Arkansas native attended Rivercrest High School in Wilson, Arkansas. After high school, he didn’t go straight to the U. He attended Northwest Mississippi Community College and was later offered a full ride to Miami.
He emerged as a game changer in 1989 as he was an integral part of the Hurricanes winning the 1989 National Title. He started all 12 games and was named a Consensus All American. His play got him drafted third overall in 1990 by the Seattle Seahawks where he was a 5 time All Pro Player and the 1992 Defensive Player of the Year.
Kennedy retired from the NFL in 2000 and was inducted into the University of Miami Hall of Fame in 2004. Sadly, Tez passed away in 2017 due to natural causes stemming from hypertensive heart disease.
Tomorrow for day 95, I’ll be covering a recent Notre Dame pass rusher that just landed on a roster as an undrafted free agent.
