Yesterday for day 98, I went over my brief interaction with Georgia kicker Rodrigo Blankenship who rocked the rec specs. Now today for day 97, I’ll be highlighting a pass rusher who just went second overall in the NFL Draft.
Aidan Hutchinson was a 4 star recruit coming out of Divine Child High School in Dearborn, Michigan. He held offers from Wisconsin, LSU, and Nebraska, but decided to stay home and play for the Michigan Wolverines. When Hutchinson played in the 2018 U.S. Army All American Game, he was able to tally 2 sacks.
As a true freshman in blue and maize, Hutchinson saw action in 13 games where he made 15 total tackles with 1.5 for loss. The following season he made Third Team All Big Ten after he racked up 68 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles.
During the Covid-19 season of 2020, Hutchinson only played in 3 games where he made 13 tackles and broke up 1 pass. His senior season in 2021 was truly his breakout year.
As a senior he made 55 tackles and 14 sacks on his way to being named First Team All Big Ten, Unanimous All American, Smith–Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year, Nagurski–Woodson Defensive Player of the Year, Lott Trophy winner, Lombardi Award winner, Ted Hendricks Award winner, and was a Heisman Finalist.
Following his elite senior season, Hutchinson was drafted second overall in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. It doesn’t seem like Hutchinson is ever leaving Michigan.
