With the college football season being only 99 days away, I am going to start a daily countdown to the season by highlighting one to two players that wore the number that matches the days. Today, is number 99.
99 is a phenomenal football number. It’s worn by elite NFL defenders like J.J. Watt and Aaron Donald so today, the guy I want to highlight is former Clemson defensive end and current Raider, Clelin Ferrell.
Ferrell dominated ACC offensive lines in his playing days from 2015-2018. He balled out as a Tiger on an elite defensive line that consisted of himself, Christian Wilkins, Dexter Lawrence, and Austin Bryant.
Throughout his Clemson career he racked up 166 tackles, 27 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, and 1 touchdown.
In the 2019 NFL Draft, he went the highest out of any of his Clemson counterparts when the Raiders drafted him number four overall. Wilkins came off the board at thirteen to the Dolphins, Lawrence at seventeen to the Giants, and Bryant went in the fourth round to Detroit.
While Ferrell hasn’t had the greatest start to his NFL career and is overshadowed by another young Raider pass rusher in Maxx Crosby, he did bring a lot of drip and swag to the field at Clemson. Ferrell would rock a shooter sleeve with the phrase “I’m A Baddddd Man!!!” written on it.
Tomorrow, we will be 98 days away and I’m not to sure what player we’ll be highlighting. Maybe a kicker, maybe an edge rusher, who knows?
