Yesterday for October 7th I wrote about First Date by Blink-182 and mentioned how songs like First Date gave me American Pie movie vibes. Well, that got me thinking so I rewatched my favorite one, American Pie 2, and I heard a song that I love and fits perfect on this countdown.
I did say yesterday we’d briefly touch on the punk rock subsection, but Fat Lip by Sum 41 is an unreal song that makes me think of hanging out with your boys.
Fat Lip was a smash hit when it released in 2001 on the All Killer, No Filler album. It hit number one on the U.S. Alternative Airplay chart and second on the UK Rock and Metal chart.
In addition to that, Fat Lip hit number eight on the UK Top Singles chart and even received love in Scotland as it hit number six on the Scottish Singles chart.
Sum 41 even performed their hit song on Saturday Night Live on October 6th, 2001.
The two minute and fifty eight second banger is filled with lots fast guitar and drums that punch you in the face in the best way possible.
Fat Lip music video was ranked seventy fifth on MuchMusic’s 100 Best Music Videos. It was filmed in Pomona, California and shows the band in a liquor store singing a cappella to the workers in the store. Then it shows the band playing in front of a massive mosh pit.
Fat Lip is about going to parties and hanging out with friends. This gives me strong Alt Rock Autumn vibes because after games on weekends, my teammates will pack the car and either hit another college campus or local bars.
What a lot of people don’t know about Mass Maritime is that going here is like working a job during the week. An extremely dry campus where fun is usually sucked up, so when the weekend hits, the cadets here love to get after it.
That’s what this whole fall has been about. Planning our weekend out on a Monday at dinner has become a recent occurrence. Fat Lip has just been the perfect song for this Autumn.
