The Bengals went into free agency very aggressively adding defenders but, they haven’t helped Joe Burrow out very much. There are still solid offensive linemen like Trent Williams and Russell Okung available that they could target so keep an eye on that.
As for the defenders that they signed, they brought in edge rusher Trey Hendrickson and corner back Chidobe Awuzie.
Hendrickson had a breakout year this past season for the Saints as he racked up 22 tackles with 13.5 sacks. Due to this elite level performance, the Bengals gave him a 4 year, 60 million dollar contract that he inked yesterday.
Cincinnati adds a new number one corner back in Chidobe Awuzie from Dallas. Since entering the league in 2017 from Colorado, he has been extremely up and down but could be a great fit for the Bengals.
Last season he only played in eight games and recorded one interception. Today, he signed a 3 year, 21.75 million dollar contract. Odd signing but it seems like a low risk, high reward move.
While these moves are huge, Cincinnati needs to sign at least one offensive lineman like Rick Wagner or Alex Mack and then hopefully draft either Penei Sewell or Rashawn Slater at number five. Extremely curious to see how Ryan Day helps Joe Burrow out.
