Big Ben Officially Announces His Retirement

Today via a video on Twitter, the illustrious Steelers quarterback “Big” Ben Roethlisberger announced his official retirement. It’ll definitely be weird seeing someone else throw the rock in the Steel City next season.

Over his career, Roethlisberger passed for 64,088 yards, 418 touchdowns, and 211 interceptions. He’s a two time Super Bowl champion, was a six time Pro Bowler, the 2004 Offensive Rookie of the Year, and led the league in passing in 2014 and 2018.

Even his college career was filled with accolades and praise. He played for the Miami University Red Hawks where his number seven got retired. In 2001 he was named MAC Freshman of the Year and in 2003 the Lima, Ohio native was MAC Offensive Player of the Year and MAC MVP.

While Roethlisbergers career was filled with many bright moments, two nights leave a stain on his playing days. The first night was in Lake Tahoe in 2008 when he was accused of sexually assaulting a women in a hotel room at a celebrity golf tournament.

The other time came two years later in 2010 in Milledgeville, Georgia when Roethlisberger was investigated for sexually assaulting a woman in the women’s restroom of a night club.

He was suspended by the league in 2010 for six games and settled with one of the sexual assault victims.

With all of that being said, Roethlisberger had a great NFL career and I’m curious to see what his post playing career looks like.

The 18 seasons that Ben Roethlisberger spent in Pittsburgh are the longest that any QB has spent for an entire career with one franchise in NFL history. Roethlisberger ends his career with the most seasons and games played in Steelers franchise history.
