Two time Blake of the Year winner and six time NBA All Star, Blake Griffin just signed with the Brooklyn Nets after his contract buyout with the Detroit Pistons. Adding Griffin to the Nets just brings another guy who can score from any spot on the floor, but remember, there is only one ball.
Griffin spent 2010-2018 with the L.A Clippers and was the focal point of the “Lob City” team. He was dealt to the Pistons in 2018 in exchange for Avery Bradley, Tobias Harris, Boban Marjanovic and draft picks. It’s still amazing how that Clippers team never won a title.
After averaging 20.7 points per game and 6.7 rebounds per game in Detroit, he was seeking a contract buyout. The two parties ended up coming to an agreement to buy Griffins contract out on March 5, 2021 and Griffin signed with the Brooklyn Nets on March 7th.
The addition of Griffin is great from the outside looking in but, will this really workout for the Nets? He is another star that needs the ball in his hands to be efficient. He does bring a defensive presence to the paint that the Nets lost when they dealt Jarrett Allen so, this could be Griffins “big role”.
I really think that Griffin signed with the Nets so he could be closer to Pardon My Take hosts, Big Cat and PFT Commenter. Every year, the podcast has their BOY award, Blake of the Year, which Griffin has won twice. He has beaten golfer Brooks Koepka and NFL legend Blake Bortles the past two years and this signing could help him go for a three-peat.
All in all, this move could help the Nets dismal defense and it just adds another weapon for Steve Nash to work with but, could four stars eventually butt heads down the stretch for the playoffs? We’ll have to just sit back and watch.
