Last night the Charlotte Hornets drafted Brooklyn native and UConn alumni, James Bouknight eleventh overall. I love Bouknight but there is no way in hell I can root for Charlotte, they’re just so awful.
Bouknight was projected to go anywhere from number seven overall to Golden State or number twelve to the Spurs. I really thought that the Magic would snag him at number eight but Orlando went with Michigan forward Franz Wagner.
I do like the placement of Bouknight in Charlotte. I think that Bouknight and LaMelo Ball could turn into a lethal guard tandem and could push the Hornets to the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Let’s go back in time quickly and remember the last UConn guard to land in Charlotte. Kemba Walker played in Charlotte from 2011 to 2019 and in that time he became Charlottes all time leading scorer and free throw leader. Hopefully Bouknight can have that same impact on the Hornets franchise.
While I won’t root for Charlotte, I will root for Bouknight and may have to cop a turquoise Hornets jersey with Bouknight’s last name on it.
