The two time Offensive Player of the Year and thirteen time Pro Bowler Drew Brees is walking away from the game of football today. A legend that has left his mark on the game and the city of New Orleans that football fans across the nation loved.
Brees played his college ball at Purdue University. As a Boilermaker he passed for 11,792 yards and 90 touchdowns. After his four years in Indiana, he was drafted in the second round of the 2001 draft by the San Diego Chargers.
As a Charger, he threw for 12,348 yards and 80 touchdowns. In 2006, the Chargers refused to pay Brees more money so he met with the Miami Dolphins and New Orleans Saints. Miami ended up trading for Dante Culpepper from the Vikings so Brees signed a 6 year, 60 million dollar deal with the Saints.
In 2010, Drew Brees led the Saints to their first and only Super Bowl win against the Indianapolis Colts.
Through his illustrious career, Brees was a five time All Pro, a thirteen time Pro Bowler, the 2004 Comeback Player of the Year, 2006 Walter Payton Man of the Year, two time Offensive Player of the Year, and is the fastest player to ever reach 50,000, 60,000, 70,000, and 80,000 passing yards.
Brees finishes with 80,358 passing yards, 7,142 completions, and 571 touchdowns. The game loses a legend today. A great guy off the field and a tremendous player on the field.
