Today, Mass Maritime battled with one of the Little Easts top teams, the Keene State Owls and were defeated 16-9. The Owls ball movement and patience on the offensive end proved superior, but there were many bright spots for the Buccaneers in this loss.
Going into the contest against the Owls, two of Mass Maritimes captains and key players were out, in seniors Spencer Jones and PJ Lawson. Sophomore attack Gage Coolahan, who has 5 points on the season, and stud face-off man Brian Rosher were both also sidelined.
Mass Maritime fell behind 12-5 following a high powered first half from the Owls which included a 7 goal second period. The lead that Keene State built up was too insurmountable and even though they only allowed 4 goals in the second half, they couldn’t come back.
Once again, junior Mitch Maida led the Buccaneers in both goals, 4, and points, 5. Other goal scorers were Dale Donovan and Ryan Cameron with 2 a piece, and Braeden Kosiewicz with 1. Hull, MA native Jack Iversen assisted on three goals this afternoon while also causing a turnover.
The Bucs junior captain and defensive star Leo Allgaier caused the most turnovers, again. He recorded 3 caused turnovers while tallying an assist and scooped 1 ground ball.
With Brian Rosher out of the game, sophomore dual athlete Stephen McBrine took over as the face-off man. The Cardinal Spellman alum won 13 of his 24 face-offs today for a percentage of 54%. McBrine is also a defensive end on the Bucs football team where he played in 9 games recording 12 tackles, 1 sack, and a forced fumble.
Coach Bagbys squad has a little time off before their next contest when they travel north on Saturday 4/2 to square off with Southern Maine.
