Bucs Baseball Sweeps Rivier In Sunday Double Header
MMA reaches .500 following two wins on Sunday.
The Rivier Raiders traveled south from New Hampshire today and were handed not one, but two losses at the hands of Coach Kelleys squad. Mass Maritime won the first game of the double header 2-0 and the second game 10-2.
In game one of the double header, junior pitcher Brodey Tinkham took the bump and pitched all 7 innings. Tinkham allowed only 2 hits and no runs while throwing 68% strikes. The Norton, MA native struck out 5 Raiders batters.
At the dish in game one, the Buccaneers tallied 6 hits, none bigger though than junior John Tropeas second inning single to drive in both Chris Perito and Frank Aten. Those would be the only two runs of the game for both squads as Mass Maritime won 2-0.
In game two, freshman Hunter Dean picked up the win on the bump. He threw 4 innings allowing 1 hit and striking out 4 batters. Dean is also a quarterback/tight end on the football team and saw some time this season catching 2 passes for 8 yards in a road loss to Plymouth State.
Other pitching contributions came from senior Brady Parks. Parks dealt for 3 innings where he allowed 3 hits with 2 earned runs. He also walked 2 batters and struck out 3.
On offense for the Buccaneers, senior Zach Sylvia tallied 2 hits in 3 at bats with 3 RBIs. Chris Perito also made a large impact as he drove in 3 runs in 3 at bats with 2 hits and scored 2 runs. The bulk of Mass Maritimes runs came in a 5 run second inning that left the Raiders unable to retaliate. The Buccaneers won 10-2 and pushed their record to 7-7.
Mass Maritime has another home game this week on Tuesday 3/29 against the Tufts Jumbos.
