Could Alex Smith Be Done Playing Football?
After Washington dropped Smith today, will he ever play in the league again?
The Washington Football Team dropped this seasons Comeback Player of the Year, Alex Smith after he recorded 1582 passing yards and 6 touchdowns. He came back from a tremendously gruesome leg injury that occurred in 2018 and is now looking for a new home but, will a team take the chance on the 36 year old gun slinger?
It is rumored that the Jacksonville Jaguars could bring Smith in to mentor Trevor Lawrence, who is essentially a lock for the number one pick. Smith played under current Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer at the University of Utah where Smith was selected number one overall.
He could be a “player coach” in Duval for Lawrence on a one year veteran minimum deal for his old coach.
The only other squad I can envision Smith landing with is the New York Jets. My thinking behind this is that the Jets will deal Darnold for a 3rd or 4th round selection and then draft either Zach Wilson or Justin Fields at number two.
Wherever Smith lands, it won’t be as a starter, I believe he’ll be more of a mentor and or emergency back up that can hold down the fort for a week or two if needed.
