Could Gilmore Be On The Move?
Patriots corner and former Defensive Player of the Year, Stephon Gilmore could be dealt prior to the draft.
Trade talks are heating up in New England and the center piece of a potential deal is former Defensive Player of the Year, Stephon Gilmore. Many reports have said that Gilmore was on the trade block last season around the deadline and it appears that he has found his way back there.
There is two ways the Patriots could go about this deal. The first is if they deal Gilmore for picks in this years draft to go into rebuild mode. They could make a deal with the New York Giants for their number 11 pick. If the Patriots send Gilmore and a 4th next season they could get the 11th pick and take a player like Trey Lance to run the offense or an edge rusher like Kwity Paye. Then, with the 15th pick, take a weapon like Kyle Pitts or go for a guard to fill Joe Thuneys spot like Alijah Vera-Tucker.
Another team they could make a deal with is the Cleveland Browns. The Browns would bolster the back end of their defense and could give up the 26th pick for Gilmore and a 5th this season. At 26, Belichick could target an edge rusher like Zaven Collins from Tulsa or even a corner to fill Gilmores spot like Jaycee Horn out of South Carolina.
The other way they could approach this trade is by going with the “win now” strategy and target Deshaun Watson. If they gave up Gilmore, their first this season, and second rounder next year in exchange for Watson, a fourth next season, and a backup tight end like Darren Fells, then New England could get right back to Super Bowl form.
Seeing Gilmore get dealt would be wild but, New England could find a way to get out of this trade looking like big winners.
