Dave Portnoy is a Man of the People
Barstool Sports founder is trying to help out the "little guy" by creating a fund for small businesses nation wide
Dave Portnoy founded Barstool Sports in 2003 out of Milton, Massachusetts and has come a long way from selling newspapers in train stations. Barstool is now one of the biggest media companies in the world with their blogs, podcasts, merchandise, and gambling. Dave is the perfect example of hard work and the American dream.
Small businesses all around the nation have been absolutely crippled due to Covid-19 and Dave knows the struggle of running a business and how tough it is to stay afloat so, he has challenged local government and national government by starting the “Barstool Fund”, which will contribute 500,000 dollars to small businesses in need.
Portnoy is quoted in a Twitter video “…if it’s a gym, restaurant, bar and you’re not going to be able to survive the next couple of months, send us an email.”
The Barstool founder has sledged government officials such as New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, for the shut downs of small businesses and banning indoor dining at restaurants. Barstool HQ is located in New York, the state that has handled Covid-19 the worst of the 50 states.
Daves leadership and genius has even sparked new merchandise ideas. The Barstool store has added shirts and hoodies that represent the “Barstool Fund”. One of which has the “Borrelli’s” logo; an Italian restaurant that is owned by Barstool personality, Frank Borrelli’s father. The money made off of these hoodies and shirts will goto the Barstool Fund to help more small businesses across the nation.
Dave Portnoy is known by many as funny and entertaining. Some people think of him as an “asshole” because they view Barstool as just a bunch of “frat bros” but, Dave has shown that Barstool is more than that. He is taking money from his own pocket and helping many struggling Americans who have worked their whole life to open up a business.
