If you’re subscribed to Articles from the Office then you know that I’ve been following the journey of Enfield native Ryan Debarber through this track season. Well, last night in Eugene, Oregon, Ryans high school career concluded.
At historic Hayward Field, Debarber took nineteenth in the boys javelin throw with a throw 167 feet and 1 inch. When I talked to Ryan he said “Didn’t throw that well” but I mean 167 and a nineteenth place finish at Nationals is pretty damn good.
Ryan is set to walk on next year at University of North Carolina Wilmington where his dad Pat threw in college. I asked him about the experience of throwing in Nationals and Ryan said “It was awesome! It was a hell of an experience! I couldn’t have asked for a better week here.”
Like I’ve mentioned prior, the whole Enfield athletic community has been rooting for Ryan this season and I know that will continue when he hits the division one level.
