I won’t lie to you guys, I’m fired up about this signing. When the dust settled on the bulk of free agency and the draft, the Vikings had around fourteen million dollars in cap space and were looking to make a splash.
They first went and signed interior defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson to a three and a half million dollar deal so they were at ten and a half million. The Richardson signing was massive as they added depth to the defensive line.
Fast forward to yesterday, the Vikings used some of their remaining cap space to sign wide receiver Dede Westbrook. He signed a one year deal, the money has not yet been specified.
Westbrook will be an awesome weapon for Kirk Cousins. He could have a big role in the offseason as Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson are going to get a lot of attention from opposing defenses. I really have never been this excited about the acquisition of a third wide out.
The Oklahoma alumni played in only two games last season after suffering a torn ACL. In his first three seasons in Jacksonville, Westbrook recorded a hundred and fifty six catches, over seventeen hundred yards, and nine touchdowns. HUGE MOVE FOR THE VIKINGS.
