The Dolphins and Texans have made a trade to swap late round draft picks and linebackers Benardrick McKinney and Shaq Lawson. Both linebackers will fit better with their new franchises and both squads win this trade.
Shaq Lawson is a solid edge rusher and will be the primary pass rusher in Houston now since Clowney left a few years ago and Watt just signed with the Cardinals. Lawson had a down year last season when he recorded 17 tackles, 1 forced fumble and 4 sacks.
As for the Dolphins acquiring McKinney, this is a solid addition to the heart of their defense. McKinney, like Lawson was not super effective last year. He only played four games and racked up 19 tackles. He’s a great athlete and when healthy can be tremendously efficient.
I do love seeing trades in the offseason but, this one was definitely a surprise. I did not know that these two players were on the trade block so I am curious to see how they fit in.
