Gus Malzahn Gets The UCF Job
The former Auburn head coach lands a new head coaching gig in Orlando.
Former Auburn head coach, Gus Malzahn was fired this past season and has just found a new home. He will be coaching the UCF Knights in Orlando, Florida this fall. He was 68-35 in his career at Auburn and in his first season, led the Tigers to the National Championship which they ended up losing to Florida State.
Malzahn takes over for Josh Heupel who coached UCF from 2018-2021. On January 27, 2021, despite Heupel’s Knights teams getting worse, he was hired by the Tennessee Volunteers to fill the head coaching vacancy. In true Volunteer form, they went out and hired a guy who did not have much success with a lot of talent on his roster.
Gus Malzahn is a very good coach that should bring UCF back to “National Championship” form. He has a boat load of talent on his Knights squad and has a real opportunity to compete with AAC powerhouses like Cincinnati and Memphis.
UCF made an awesome hire but, if two seasons into Malzahns contract he leads UCF to NY6 bowl games, don’t be surprised if he ends up leaving to goto a Power 5 school. Maybe back to the SEC or Big 12.
