Hugh Wells Is An Academic Weapon And A Football Guy
The Maritime pass rusher was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for NCAA Division III District One.
Congratulations to Hugh Wells. This morning it was announced that the 6’3, two hundred and forty pound, junior pass rusher was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for NCAA Division III District One.
His efforts on the field and in the classroom really paid off. Wells, a friend of the My Parents Office podcast, holds a 3.45 GPA as a marine transportation major.
On the gridiron this season, the Hall high alum tallied fifty seven tackles, thirty seven solo, four sacks, thirteen tackles for loss, and forced two fumbles while also recovering two fumbles.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District Team recognizes the nations best and brightest student athletes. It takes into consideration the athletes on field play and actions in the classroom.
By being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for NCAA Division III District One, his name will be advanced to the Academic All American ballot.
In addition to this award, Wells was also named Second Team MASCAC Defense. Along with Wells, five other Buccaneers were named to the MASCAC All Conference Team.
His counterpart on the defensive line, Mack Brown, was named First Team MASCAC Defense as a defensive tackle after he totaled thirty eight tackles, six and a half sacks, and one forced fumble.
Along with the New Orleans native Brown, cornerback Cobey Williamson was named First Team MASCAC Defense as he accounted for thirty nine tackles and five interceptions.
Kicker and punter George Lampros made both the MASCAC First and Second Teams. He was the first team kicker after he was perfect on the year for extra points and field goals that included a forty six yard game winner against West Conn.
George was named as the second team punter as he averaged thirty eight yards per punt this season with sixteen falling in the twenty yard line.
Other Bucs that made the second team was senior safety Kyle Rogers. This is Rogers second All Conference appearance as he made it as a sophomore. The Abington native recorded sixty eight tackles, one and a half sacks, nine pass breakups, and an interception.
The final Buc that was named All Conference was sophomore wideout Andrew “Andy” Brightman. He reeled in forty seven balls for six hundred and seventy five yards and two scores in his first season at Mass Maritime.
Congrats to all the Bucs who earned All Conference. It’s a pretty exciting thing to see that three of the All Conference selections are back next season.
