"We think it's unhealthy for college football to encourage intraconference transfers,".
Lincoln Riley is an asshole. There is no disputing that, but on Friday, he solidified his standing as an absolute scumbag.
The former Oklahoma head coach, who left his team high and dry and lied to them, was able to get Oregon running back and brother of Vikings linebacker Troy Dye, Travis Dye to transfer to USC. Now this seems pretty innocuous, but I’ll explain why it’s a dirtbag move.
In January of 2021, Oklahoma quarterback Chandler Morris announced that he would be transferring from the Sooners in conference to the TCU Horned Frogs. Morris practiced and scrimmaged with TCU in spring ball, but he had not been fully released from his scholarship at Oklahoma.
While Morris was in Corpus Christi, Lincoln Riley was back in Norman preparing to block Morris from playing for the Horned Frogs. In late March of 2021, Riley officially blocked the transfer to their Big 12 opponents.
Riley had no issue that his Heisman winning quarterback Baker Mayfield came from Texas Tech who is a Big 12 opponent and the fact that he wouldn’t let a kid transfer in conference is hypocritical. Morris was going to sit behind Williams and Rattler this year and Riley knew he had no intention of using him.
Morris was able to eventually transfer to TCU and did get playtime. His best performance came against Baylor when he passed for 461 yards. Following his performance against the Bears, he was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week.
When Riley spoke about Morris transferring to TCU and staying the Big 12, he said "We think it's unhealthy for college football to encourage intraconference transfers,".
Now, with Riley running off to USC and leaving the Sooners, he has been active in flipping recruits and bringing in transfers. His most recent transfer was Oregon running back Travis Dye.
That’s kind of weird. I thought Riley wasn’t a fan of athletes transferring within their conference. I mean, in his words it’s “unhealthy”. Just a true scumbag move.
I have so much hatred and disdain for Lincoln Riley and pray that his time at USC goes poorly. I would love to see him win twelve games in three seasons and have the USC faithful come for his head.
