Kevin Mawae Lands in Indy
Hall of Fame center, Kevin Mawae joins the Colts coaching staff as an offensive line assistant.
The newest addition to the Colts coaching staff is former All Pro center and Hall of Famer, Kevin Mawae. He joins the staff to be an offensive line assistant and has some coaching experience in the past.
Mawae retired after a long 16 year career in 2010. In his career he was an 8 time All Pro, 7 first team and 1 second team, an 8 time Pro Bowler, and was inducted into the Jets Ring of Honor. His illustrious career was capped off with an induction into Canton.
Off the field during Mawae’s playing time, he was voted the President of the NFLPA committee. It was under his presidency that active players were present for negotiations of the collective bargaining agreement.
In 2016, Mawae dipped his toe in the world of coaching when the Bears brought him on their staff as an assistant offensive line coach but, was not retained in 2017. In March of 2018,. Mawae joined the Arizona State University football staff as a quality control analyst where he was reunited with his former New York Jets head coach, Herm Edwards.
Now, in 2021, Mawae will work with the Colts offensive line which has the leagues best offensive lineman, Quenton Nelson. Getting a guy who was an absolute mauler during his career to work with Nelson could take Nelsons game from great to legendary. I think this is overall an awesome hire for Indy.
