Mark Hoppus Is Battling Cancer
Blink-182 bassist has begun chemotherapy treatments for cancer.
As a huge Blink-182 fan, it’s super unfortunate to see one of my favorite musicians battle cancer. Hoppus announced in an Instagram story and on Twitter on June 23rd that he was diagnosed with cancer and has been receiving chemotherapy treatments for the last three months.
Hoppus is a high energy bassist for the punk rock band that has a cult like following and has touched many generations. I wasn’t alive when the band broke out but the groups music transcends time.
The beloved founder of the band received a massive outpouring of support from all corners of the internet. Many personalities that you may not have thought were punk fans extended their thoughts and prayers when Hoppus announced that he was going through the treatments.
Hoppus seems to be in high spirits as he posted a follow up Instagram story of him with an IV hooked to his arm that read “Yes hello. One cancer treatment, please,”.
His band mates also sent their prayers as drummer Travis Barker told E! News, “Mark is my brother and I love and support him. I will be with him every step of the way on stage and off and can’t wait for us to play together again soon.”
Fellow Blink-182 guitarist Tom Delonge also stated that he was in the know about Hoppus’s diagnosis and that Hoppus “…is strong, and a super-human who is pushing through this difficult obstacle with a wide-open heart”.
The whole punk rock community and Blink-182 fans like myself are sending thoughts and prayers to Mark and his whole family through this extremely difficult time.
