Mass Maritime Baseball Vanquishes Dean College To Pick Up Their Fourth Win Of The Season
The Buccaneers beat Dean 4-2 to move to 5-7.
After a slow start to the season down south dropping games against talented Ave Marie and Palm Beach State, the Buccaneers are picking up steam. Since returning from Florida, Coach Kelleys squad was 4-4 going into their matchup with the Dean College Bulldogs.
Heading into the contest, Dean was winless allowing 12.4 runs per game. They were being outscored 124 to 50. The Buccaneers were determined to not let the Bulldogs pick up their first win of the season and they delivered with a 4-2 win on Wednesday afternoon in Buzzards Bay.
Virginia native and sophomore pitcher Justin Brown took the bump for the Buccaneers and threw for 6.2 innings. In his time on the mound, Brown allowed 2 runs on 8 hits while recording 2 strikeouts. Brown was relieved by Lewis Mills alum Brenden Baiardi, shoutout Hartford county, and he pitched 2.1 innings where he didn’t allow a hit and picked up a strikeout.
At the dish, another Lewis Mills alum, AJ Pietrafesa made the most of his 4 at bats. He had 2 hits, was walked once, and tallied an RBI. Other contributions at the plate came from junior John Tropea with a walk, 2 hits, and an RBI and freshman Jake Houston who had 2 hits.
A big swing in the Buccaneers direction came in the bottom of the second inning when junior outfielder Chris Perito stole second base and sophomore catcher Max Hefner stole home.
It’s seems to be the week of the dual sport player, especially the wideouts, as Hefner came up big with stealing home and Leo Allgaier was named LEC lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week. In the fall of 2021, the Jacksonville native Hefner caught 3 passes for 55 yards with a long of 34 coming in a week 6 loss against Worcester State.
Up next for the Buccaneers baseball team is a Sunday double header at home on 3/27 against the Rivier Raiders at 1:00 and 3:30.
