At the start of the year, each month I would write down goals I wanted to accomplish. Some pertained to my podcast and blog, some are about new personal records I want to hit when I’m lifting, and some are things I want to do in school.
In addition to my goals, I also write down two to three songs, ones that are the focal point of whatever is on my playlist.
I’ve decided to write about what those monthly goals to really add more depth and meaning to what I want to do, so here they are.
The first goal on my list is that I want to hit episode 80 for My Parents Office. I keep an excel spread sheet on my computer with who I’m interviewing, episode numbers, and notes about the episode and we are on track to hit episode 80 so this goal is very manageable.
My next goal pertains to my lifting. It is actually the same goal I had in April but, it’s to hit 455x3 on back squat. Last month I fell short when I hit 435 but, even this month if I get 445, it’s still a win because it’s improvement.
Third is that Brett and I came up with the idea to do “MPO Shorts” on the YouTube channel. The purpose of the shorts is to just be a 3-5 minute video of Brett and I going somewhere and getting footage of it.
We have one in the works from when we went to a powerlifting competition at Lightning Fitness. We have more ideas about what we want to do and the only thing stopping us is ourselves, and Covid-19 but we’ll make do.
Fourth is one I always put down. It’s two people I want to interview that have “higher social status”. In March I put Notre Dame legend Chris Zorich down and he came on the show. Last month was Nebraska wrestler Ridge Lovett who came on and rapper MC Lars who we haven’t been able to book yet.
The two I put on my goals for this month is singer songwriter Amy Allen who’s from Maine. Amy has worked with Harry Styles, Halsey, Shawn Mendes, and many more prominent singers. Amy Allen is going to blow up very very soon, I mean shit, she already is.
Shane Griffith is the second person on my list. Shane was this years NCAA wrestling National Champion at 165. What’s interesting about Shane is that he wrestles for Stanford. For those who don’t know this, Stanford decided to cut their wrestling program before the season.
Despite the lack of support from the Stanford administration, Griffith went out and won a National Title wearing just a black singlet.
The final goal on my list is to pass all of my finals. This would be a huge help to my GPA and honestly just a confidence booster when it comes to my classes. My big struggle will be in Business Data Analysis but, I’m going to work my butt off and push for that passing C.
Now that the goals are finished up, my three songs for the month are Galway Girl by Ed Sheeran, Kanye Go by Spose and Dave Gutter, and Fire Lake by Bob Seger.
I actually heard Galway Girl at a Derby party this past weekend and it absolutely SLAPS. While it came out in 2017, I somehow have never heard it.
Kanye Go is a Spose jam that I found last month and is off of the Why Am I So Happy? album. It’s poppy, upbeat, and just hits me in the right spot. An absolute bop for summer time that I intend on playing until I hate it.
Honestly, I’m not a huge Bob Seger fan but Fire Lake is great. The aspect of it that I love is that Don Henley, Glenn Frey, and Timothy B. Schmidt sing back ground on it. You hear them faintly in the back but just knowing that those legends are singing back ground makes it a million times better.
When the month ends, I’ll write about if these goals were accomplished or not and then give my goals for the month of June.
