Minnesotas Gable Steveson Wins His Second Career Hodge Trophy
Gables trophy case gets another award.
Gable placed his shoes at the center of the mat in Detroit last weekend after beating Cohlton Schultz, but the accolades continued to flow in for the Indiana native. The Minnesota heavyweight was recently awarded his second career Hodge Trophy, an award given to the Nations top collegiate wrestler. He was a co-Hodge Trophy winner after the 2020-2021 season, sharing the honors with Iowas Spencer Lee.
Steveson went 18-0 on the season with 14 wins coming with bonus points, 6 by tech fall. Gable outscored his opponents this season 272-92, and the vast majority of the points he gave up were escapes so he could go on and tech his opponent 25-10 or 23-8. He just tooled on guys this season.
To go with Gables undefeated 18-0 record, he took home both a BIG Ten Championship in Lincoln, NE and a National Title a few weeks later. He dominated and no one even came close to touching him at all when he stepped on the mat.
Up next, Gable will be signing on with the WWE and hopping right into the lime light. Vince McMahon has been drooling to get Gable in the ring, and now with him retiring from REAL wrestling, he can go do that fake stuff that somehow attracts millions of overgrown children to watch.
Good luck to Gable next year, but it is truly sad to see him walk away from such an awesome sport after being named the nations top grappler.
