Bill Belichick started and ended the day HOT. He has turned the Patriots back into immediate contenders after just one day of the market being open.
His first two moves were bringing in nose tackle Davon Godchaux and tight end Jonnu Smith. Smith is arguably the fifth best tight end in the league because his athletic ability makes for matchup nightmares. Godchaux is a great, cheap pickup to add to the defensive line. He’s a unit in the run game and a stellar pass rusher.
Then, Bill signed safety Jalen Mills and edge rusher Matt Judon. Judon is a big time play maker that can ruin any offensive lineman’s day. Mills adds depth to the safety position and has the ability to hop in the slot and cover a tight end.
To end the day, the Patriots brought in two receivers for Cam Newton. Nelson Agholor, who had a breakout year last season and learned how to catch, and Kendrick Bourne.
While you may think that these additions don’t necessarily push the Patriots back into contender status, don’t forget that Dont’a Hightower, Patrick Chung, and Marqise Lee returning from the opt out list.
