When it comes to Notre Dame football, I’ll defend the Irish to the death but man oh man, their new jerseys for the Shamrock Series are a let down.
In past years, Notre Dame has had some absolutely fire uniforms for the Shamrock Series game. My personal favorites were from when they walloped Maryland in 2011.
Even the ones from when they played Syracuse at Yankee Stadium in 2019 were cool. Not my favorite, but they’re pretty damn creative. The Yankee uniforms felt like it divided the Fighting Irish community on whether you loved or hated them.
Another one of my favorites was definitely from their blowout win against Army in 2016. The helmets were the focal point of these and they were SICK.
The thing is, these Shamrock Series uniforms for their matchup against Wisconsin at Soldier Field just don’t hit the same. To me, they look like they’re alternate uniforms that the Naval Academy would rock.
What I’m not a huge fan of is that the helmets aren’t any different from what they typically wear. The one part of the uniform I like is the dark blue, gold, and white stripes on the side of the jersey which is a bit different.
The jersey does have some meaning with the two gold stripes resembling the rivers and water waterways on the Chicago flag. Along with that, the helmet is still gold but adds the Chicago flag on the back.
Notre Dames pants have the same stripe on them as the sides of the jersey. They represent pants from 1924 that the Irish wore when they played at Soldier Field. Just a big miss for the Irish but I still think they’re going to smack Wisconsin around.
