I am actually shocked. Like this unreal. David DeCastro has been one of the leagues best run blockers and pass protectors since he entered the league in 2012 out of Stanford, now he’ll be playing in a different city than Pittsburgh. The Steelers released the All Pro guard yesterday afternoon making their offensive line worse than it already is.
Pittsburgh now only has one returning starter on the offensive line from last year in right tackle Chukwuma Okorafor. Matt Feiler signed with the Chargers, Villanueva signed with division rivals Baltimore, Pouncey retired, and now DeCastro is off the team.
The Steelers offensive line is now ranked in the bottom quarter of the league and will lean on young players like Kevin Dotson, Zach Banner, and Kendrick Green.
For DeCastro, many teams will look to sign the thirty one year old guard. The top suitors for the former All Pro would be Seattle, Miami, and Las Vegas. All three squads have young offensive line units that are not great.
Wherever DeCastro lands, he’ll bring tenacious play along with experience and leadership that a young unit may need.
