The twenty six year old Spaniard, Jon Rahm took home the U.S. Open win today as he finished the tournament at six under. Right behind Rahm was the South African golfer, Louis Oosthuizen who ended the tournament at five under.
This win for Rahm is huge due to the fact that he was forced to withdraw from the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio after he tested positive for Covid-19 after the third round. The worst part of this for Rahm wasn’t that he got the flu, it was that he held a six stroke lead after fifty four holes. He was looking to go back to back in Dublin after he won last year, edging out American golfer Ryan Palmer.
I think that the Memorial Tournament is in Rahms rear view window after today. Today he was able to take home his first major. Prior to this tournament, his best finish was fourth at the 2018 Masters and fourth at the 2018 PGA Championship.
For Oosthuizen, when Rahm finished the round, he was one stroke back with five holes remaining. He ended up bogeying the seventeenth hole going to four under and birdying the eighteenth. Oosthuizen was so close to winning his second major. His first came back in 2010 at the British Open.
