Rebutting Deadspins Idiot Of The Year Top Ten List
Breaking down why Deadspin voted these people as top ten "idiots" of the year and why it's absurd or not.
Deadspin was essentially dead about a year and a half ago and then returned to write the occasional Barstool hit piece or smear someone who won’t get vaccinated. Well, surprise surprise this top ten list is nothing new.
The whole Deadspin staff came together to write about the fifty biggest idiots of the year. They didn’t include any democrat politicians or the Raiders wideout that MURDERED a woman. But the liberal bastion is happy to dump on people who won’t get vaccinated or just republicans in general.
Deadspin should have just stayed dormant because everything they write gets dunked on because it’s usually nonsensical, left wing vomit. With that being said, let’s dive into the top ten “idiots” this year.
10. Thom Brennaman
This one I thought was odd. No one can deny that Brennaman is a moron after he got caught on a hot mic calling San Francisco one of the “F**” capitols of the world.
His apology went viral when he was in the middle of cutting his wrists and he called a Nick Castellanos home run. “I pride myself and think of myself as a man of faith, as there's a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that'll be a home run.”
The weird thing is this also happened in 2020. Deadspin decided that he deserved a top ten spot because he is a “silver spooner” and spoke to friends like Bob Costas and Joe Buck over the time of his firing.
The rag outlet Deadspin also wasn’t thrilled when Brennaman was happy about getting Urban Meyer on his podcast. Personally, I don’t think he deserves to be on here for that alone, but we’ll let the “well respected” journalists of Deadspin have their own opinion.
9. Ted Cruz
Not much to write here. Deadspin is a left leaning outlet and they hate any republican. Cruz has led the charge against the vaccine and because he’s republican, he made the list.
Deadspin can write whatever they want, but they hate republicans and they hate people with diversion of thought. Cruz has been staunch against the vaccine so apparently that makes you an “idiot”.
Other individuals who have been against the vaccine that according to Deadspin are “idiots” are Bradley Beal, Andrew Wiggins, Kyrie Irving, John Stockton, Jonathan Isaac, Kirk Cousins, Cole Beasley, and Aaron Rodgers. These individuals are not idiots, they just think for themselves and stick to their guns.
8. Rob Manfred
I agree with this one, personally I’d have him higher. Deadspin makes great arguments where they point out how poorly Manfred has handled scandals, the biggest one being the Astros and Red Sox cheating scandal.
Manfred has become public enemy number one of all MLB fans because of his handling of the recent lockout and especially now that he had Ken Rosenthal fired because he criticized him in the past. Another solid point they make is the spider tack argument that Manfred turned a blind eye to.
I think Manfred is spineless and deserves a spot on this list. My only gripe is that he isn’t bumped up because Deadspin can’t get over people not getting the vaccine.
7. Kyrie Irving
I would have you just refer back to number nine, but Irving isn’t a republican. Irving is just against getting the vaccine. And because Irving refuses to get the vaccine, he hasn’t been available to play for the Nets this year.
He isn’t able to play in Canada and won’t be able to play in certain cities, but I don’t think that makes him an “idiot”. What Deadspin really didn’t like was Irvings “me first attitude and his insistence on doing whatever the hell he wanted to do regardless of how it affected his so-called “brothers” on the Nets.”
Well I’m sorry, but if someone really isn’t comfortable putting something in their body and they understand that they’re losing out on money in the meantime, I really have no issue. I agree that Irving can be an asshole at times, but I respect how he’s sticking to his guns on this stance in the same way I’d respect someone who got the vaccine.
6. Sage Steele
This one’s easier to diagnose than the Ted Cruz one. I have a lot of issues with this description, but the first sentence written is pretty gross.
“Sage Steele loves three things: pissing off Black people, letting white people play in her hair, and finding ways to outdo herself.” This is outrageous. Sage Steele is an African American woman that is a republican and Deadspin is trying to make her out to be an “Uncle Tom”.
While at ESPN, another liberal outlet, Steele was forced to get vaccinated to keep her job so she did. She then contracted Covid-19 and was suspended for saying that she disagrees with ESPNs vaccine mandate on Jay Cutlers podcast.
So Steele was suspended for those comments, but when coworker Jemele Hill called Donald Trump a white supremacist, no action was taken. There is no proof that Trump is a white supremacist and Hill has no proof of that. That would be like me calling Deadspin writer Sam Fels a pedophile or a crack addict. I have no proof of it, but apparently I can just say it.
Major miss by Deadspin to have Steele on this list.
5. Urban Meyer
Again, I hate to do it, but I have to agree that Meyer is an idiot. He did just about everything wrong as an NFL head coach. He kicked his kicker, grinded with a coed after a loss, hired a racist strength coach, and berated coaches.
The Urban Meyer experiment in Jacksonville collapsed due to his own idiocy.
While Deadspin makes great points against the former Ohio State coach, they do lose their way in the article when they write “There are plenty of rotten people doing well in America. The people who run the prison-industrial complex, the banking industry, which in the 2020s is still getting sued for discrimination, and hell, the way it’s looking now, Donald Trump might become the only president besides Grover Cleveland to get voted out after a first term and then win again four years later.”
Good ole Deadspin always finding ways to inject a political narrative when one is not needed in this example of Meyer.
4. Chicago Blackhawks
Sometimes lightning strikes twice. I agree with Deadspin, but think that the Blackhawks should be higher. The Blackhawks did everything they could to cover up the sexual assault of Kyle Beach by a former video coach.
I would even say this is beyond idiotic. It’s negligent and disgusting that the whole organization attempted to silence Kyle Beach. Just a gross thing to do and I think that the actions of the organization should make them the number one idiots.
3. Trevor Bauer
This is a tough one. Trevor Bauer has been put on paid administrative leave after being accused by a woman of sexual assault, but Bauer claims he had consensual rough sex with said woman.
I personally believe that while Bauer does spout some idiotic things and can be abrasive, this case is still very murky. I am all for believe all women in a sexual assault case, but I also believe that Bauer is innocent until proven guilty.
Deadspin saw that these allegations came out and knew that they’d have a free shot to pile on a guy that they do not like while he has not been charged with anything. All that there is is allegations, nothing concrete.
I’d have to say that this is a miss by the Deadspin staff, they’re just blinded by their hatred for Bauer.
2. Aaron Rodgers
Again, another person that Deadspin hates. When Rodgers bungled his Covid-19 contraction and fumbled his words about being vaccinated, the rag journalists at Deadspin saw this as read meat to kill a person who isn’t media friendly.
While Rodgers handled the situation in an idiotic way, I don’t think that it’s worthy of the number two spot. Just lazy and hate filled writing from those at Deadspin.
1. Jon Gruden
While I would argue that the Blackhawks covering up a sexual assault is worse than what Gruden did, there is no disputing that Gruden is an idiot. The emails he sent are filled with disgusting rhetoric about the LGBTQ+ and African American communities.
Gruden wrote that DeMaurice Smith “has lips the size of michellin tires” and criticized Goodell for “pressuring” the Rams to draft Michael Sam. Just outlandish and gross things to say and or write.
Like I said, the number one spot may not be proper as Henry Ruggs III was an idiot for driving drunk and the Blackhawks were idiots for covering up a sexual assault, but Gruden is an idiot.
