“Oh, oh, sometimes, I get a good feeling. Yeah”. And today, I don’t have a good feeling. Swedish DJ Tim Bergling, who goes by Avicii passed away from suicide three years ago today when he was 28 years old.
At the age of eight, Tim fell in love with music. He began mixing music in his room by himself and drew inspiration from his older brother Anton who was also was a DJ. In May of 2007, Avicii signed on with the Dejfitts Plays label at the age of 17.
Avicii really broke through in 2011 when he released the famous song “Levels” which I have played at the beach, hanging with friends, and even when I am trying to hit a huge max at the gym. It just gets the people going.
While “Levels” is what he is best known for, his discography is so deep. Songs like “Wake Me Up”, “Hey Brother”, and “The Nights” will forever have a special spot in my playlist.
Avicii was really a trailblazer for many EDM artists and groups including the Chainsmokers and Halsey.
Drew Taggart of the Chainsmokers said "His passing was a great loss for the music world and for us. He was an artist who inspired so many in so many ways, and simply put, he meant so much to us and everyone in the EDM community.”
He gave the people so many bangers that you can play in the car with friends or at a party and many people close to Avicii believe that the reason he took his life at such a young age was because of how early he was thrusted into the spotlight.
With fame came depression and anxiety that eventually took over his life which led him to kill himself.
Avicii was such a good young artist and falls into the same category as someone like Amy Winehouse who passed away in 2011 from alcohol poisoning. I love Amy Winehouse’s music and wish she were still around to continue making great music just like Avicii.
Rest In Peace Tim.
