R.I.P Colt Brennan
Former Hawaii quarterback and collegiate stud Colt Brennan passes away at 37.
Today, the college football world mourns a massive loss. Former Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan passed away at the young age of 37 today.
Brennan played at Mater Dei High School prior to his college days at the a University of Hawaii.
It seems like after Brennan’s short stint in the NFL and with some semipro teams he fell on hard times and was arrested for a DUI in 2019 and for trespassing in 2020. This wasn’t the beginning of Brennan’s troubling history though.
In 2003, he walked on at the University of Colorado and spent the season as a redshirt. In early 2004 at Boulder, Brennan entered a females dorm uninvited and was accused of exposing himself to her and fondling the student. Brennan staunchly denied the allegations.
When this news surfaced, he was dismissed from CU and kicked off of the Buffalos team.
Brennan ended up transferring to Saddleback College, a junior college in Mission Viejo, CA. He began to clean up his image and was named JUCO All-America, state offensive player of the year by the JuCal Transfer, and first-team all-conference for his performance in that season.
He posted 2,532 passing yards and 23 touchdowns with only 4 interceptions.
With his image semi repaired, he accepted a scholarship offer to attend the University of Hawaii. Part of the reason for choosing Hawaii was to try and distance himself from his issues back home.
It took short time before Brennan became a star in Honolulu. In his first season he started 10 out of 12 games.
In his illustrious career as a Rainbow Warrior, he tallied 11,661 yards, 108 touchdowns, and 14 rushing touchdowns. To go with his great numbers, he was a 2007 Heisman finalist, 2007 Unitas award finalist, 2006 Sammy Baugh winner, and a two time All American.
Brennan played great in college but his greatest contribution to the college game was the swag he brought to the quarterback position.
He rocked a blacked out Oakley visor which is extremely uncommon for quarterbacks, occasionally would wear a shooter sleeve and sometime black long sleeves. The visor was the real focal point though, it was something that quarterbacks only would rock in practice but he would wear it come game time.
Brennan even dyed the Hawaiian islands into the side of his bleached hair.
While he posted great numbers, Brennan slipped in the draft and was taken in the sixth round by the Washington Redskins.
His NFL career never really panned out as he never competed in a regular season game due to various injuries related to his hip and hamstring. He balled out in the preseason and looked like he would have a solid career but injuries were his ultimate demise.
After his short lived NFL career came to an end, he played short stints with the Hartford Colonials, Saskatchewan Roughriders, and L.A Kiss.
Like I mentioned prior, Brennan has had some run ins with the law. In 2012 in Honolulu he was charged with a DUI.
In 2015 he filed a false police report about his vehicle being stolen and in 2019 recorded another DUI in Hawaii. In August of 2020, Brennan was arrested for trespassing while heavily intoxicated.
According to Brennan’s father, Colt was in the fifth month of a sixth month inpatient rehab program when he passed away. His father said “the spark was back in his eyes”.
R.I.P to an absolute college football legend.
