San Diego Shortstop Signs A Long Term Deal
Fernando Tatis Jr. signs a 14 year extension with the Padres.
Well, the San Diego Padres have just made it damn near impossible to ever see see Fernando Tatis Jr. wear another uniform in his playing career. They signed the 22 year old superstar to a 14 year, 340 million dollar deal. This deal is the third biggest contract ever right behind Mookie Betts and Mike Trout.
Tatis Jr. turned 22 this January so, when his contract is up he’ll be 36 years old. He came in fourth in NL MVP voting last year behind Freeman, Betts, and his teammate Manny Machado after hitting 17 home runs and 45 RBI’s in 2021.
San Diego has a youthful and talented lineup with guys like Manny Machado, Will Meyers, Eric Hosmer, and now Tatis Jr. for the next 14 years. They could be the biggest threat out of the NL to compete with the Dodgers next season for a World Series title.
